What is Smoking?
Smoking cigarettes is nothing but a habit. Every smoker has his own typical habits system.
In some situations he will always end up smoking. Some irritations will cause him almost
always to light up a cigarette. Therefor, smoking is most of the times connected with some
sort of an act, such as: eating, drinking coffee, social conversations, driving, writing,
etc. This and more - every smoker has his own unique smoking patterns which includes a
system of repetitious acts like:
- A smoker who smokes with his right hand will always smoke with his right hand, and
if for a minute he’ll hold the cigarette with his left hand he’ll claim that it doesn’t
have the same taste...
- A smoker always hold the cigarette in the same angle in his mouth, and will light it
up with the same fingers in the same way. The way he draw the cigarette, light it up, and
all the rest of the movements, which are connected to this process of smoking, are
repeated so often they become a part of the man’s behavior.
For example: A person who smokes 20 cigarettes per day for 20 years, repeats these acts
approximately 150,000 times and inhales from the cigarettes more then a million and a
half times(!).
That means that when it comes to smoking, we’re talking about:
- Psychological dependency on a habit.
- Building an unconscious automatic behavior for smoking connected situations.
- An addiction to nicotine!
We shouldn’t ignore the fact that most of the smokers enjoy smoking and therefore in the
process of quitting an alternative non-harmful behavior should be set instead of the
harmful habit, such as: relaxation, meditation, physical activities etc.
