March 29, 1999 Letter #1
From: Kristi Sayles
Subject: smoking
My mother died of heart disease in 1991. She was 52 years old. The
doctor said
that if she would quit smoking, she would probably outlive us all. She
couldn't quit.
She died a year later. I HATE smoking! I wouldn't have married my
husband if he hadn't quit smoking. My 18 year old son now smokes. I
pray that he'll quit. I hope I don't have to watch him gasping for one
more precious breath the way I watched my Mama do. I am a second grade
teacher and I am very open about the way I am against smoking. I use
every bit of information and apparatus that I can find to prove the
dangers. I explain to the kids that even if they have parents that
smoke, they can CHOOSE a better life for themselves.
Keep up the good work,
Kristi
